Kayla’s dazzling Bat Mitzvah celebration at the Hyatt Regency against the glittering Manhattan skyline was a vibrant mix of luxury, culture, and high-energy entertainment. With showgirl and street dancers, Transformers, a magician, live music, and a playful nod to her heritage, this party redefined extravagance. And, my radiant portraits taken before the event turned into attention-grabbing centerpieces!

My bombastic Bat Mitzvah images and blog for hyper-cute kiddo Abby impressed quite a few families last year, and Kayla’s parents were among them. They reached out to me in the spring and shared their vision of an NYC-theme celebration, from pre-event portraits to the electrifying party overlooking the grandeur of Lower Manhattan at night.
Pre-Event NYC Portraits
The guys had an idea of using poster-size portraits for Kayla’s NYC-themed party decor, so the best approach was to shoot them around the iconic Manhattan locations. After reviewing the ideas, we settled on the Brooklyn Bridge and the Financial District. Started in Dumbo, stopped by the River Cafe’s garden, then took a ride across the bridge.
Aching for a super fun shot, I asked Kayla to stick her head out of the sunroof as we crossed East River. I was halfway out, too, hanging from the front passenger’s window to the entertainment of fellow drivers and riders.
We walked through a few old narrow streets to Wall Street, hoping to get a shot with the Charging Bull. I remember having fun with one of my brides next to that bull… The line was so long this time that we dropped the idea but lucked out with several city murals later, including that of the bull.
Months later, her dazzling Bat Mitzvah was no ordinary celebration; it was an electrifying fusion of style, culture, and unfiltered fun set against the shimmering Manhattan skyline. Held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Jersey City on the waterfront, the event brought together about 70 adults and 50 kids—an eclectic mix of family, friends, and Kayla’s closest confidants. The night glowed with energy, laughter, and an unforgettable vibe that radiated from the first moment to the last.
A Blast from the Past
Allow me a quick deviation… Hyatt Regency Hotel Jersey City holds a special place in my heart. To become a full-time photographer, I had to quit my 11-year clinical research career at Forest Laboratories as Field Operations Coordinator in 2012. I started professional photography in 2006, so the first six years turned into a tricky balance between two full-time jobs that couldn’t last. I chose passion over the appealing stability of the pharmaceutical industry.
Our department office was at Plaza V Harborside Financial Center, next to Hyatt. The company would hold our big annual and other training meetings at that hotel, so I knew its conference rooms like the back of my hand. Here I am, with the hotel visible through the window and with my support staff at one of those meetings.

Fancy that — this dazzling Bat Mitzvah cocktail hour and the reception were held in two of our department’s main meeting rooms! So many flashbacks from a couple of decades ago!
Indulging Cocktail Hour
The cocktail hour set the perfect tone for Kayla’s dazzling Bat Mitzvah, offering guests a moment to unwind and connect before the main event began. The showgirls greeting the guests created an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement. Adults sipped on signature cocktails inspired by the city’s iconic flair while younger guests enjoyed mocktails and actively mingled. The light fare—an artful mix of hors d’oeuvres catering to every palate—added a touch of sophistication, ensuring everyone felt indulged.
Bat Mitzvah Ceremony
Between the cocktail hour and the reception, a sacred ceremony took place. I described its tradition and meaning in another Mitzvah blog, Inside the Mystery of Bat/Bar Mitzvah Ceremony. I’ll skip the particulars, then, but will note a quaint detail following this image set:
A playful nod to Kayla’s heritage and her family’s Republican humor was prominently featured on the unique red kipahs embossed with the phrase “Kippa Merica Great.” Supporting guests, both young and old, embraced the pre-election wit and symbolism, wearing their kipahs proudly and adding a touch of whimsy. An alternative design was offered, too. 🙂
Dazzling Bat Mitzvah Party
The ballroom was transformed into a dreamscape with the magical touch of FlowerLand Decor, illuminated by “I 💗 KG” red and black theme colors and sleek lighting that echoed the city’s iconic night views. As guests arrived, they were greeted by the breathtaking sight of Manhattan twinkling across the Hudson—a backdrop that set the tone for an unforgettable night.
Radiant in a modern, chic dress, Kayla was the evening star. Her portraits, taken at iconic Manhattan landmarks earlier, were elegantly displayed through the reception hall, adding a personal touch to the décor.
The pièce de résistance was, of course, Kayla’s candle-lighting ceremony, a poignant and joyful moment that brought everyone together. She honored her loved ones, expressing gratitude and humor in equal measure, leaving no dry eye or untouched heart in the room.
The entertainment provided by A2Z Party was as dynamic as it was diverse enough to make a truly dazzling Bat Mitzvah. Six professional dancers, outfitted in eye-catching costumes, kept the energy high with mesmerizing performances, weaving through the crowd with electrifying movements. Transformer LED robots joined the fray, dancing and delighting both kids and adults with their larger-than-life personas. To add a sprinkle of magic, a roving magician worked his charm among the guests, captivating them with mind-bending tricks and illusions. Lastly, interactive games masterfully conducted by MC Koko kept all the youngsters busy.
Adding a personal touch to the dazzling Bat Mitzvah rhythm was Kayla’s father, Nate, who, as a talented drummer, joined the band for several rousing, impromptu sets. By the way, he’s also an ultramarathoner! The live music was a harmonious blend of artistry, with a saxophonist and violinist creating a lively, soulful vibe that resonated through the room. Together, they transformed the ballroom into a pulsating dance floor that drew everyone to their feet.
From the gourmet food stations to the chic photo booths offering Instagram-worthy reels and moments, every detail of their dazzling Bat Mitzvah was meticulously designed to elevate the experience.
One of the hits with the youngsters was Dragon’s Breath desserts. It’s a frozen dessert made from cereal dipped in liquid nitrogen. Various dipping sauces allow you to change the flavors, similar to Froot Loops. When placed in your mouth, it produces “fog,” which comes out of the nose and mouth, just like from a dragon!
Kaylaganza Night!
By the night’s end, Kaylaganza had redefined what a dazzling Bat Mitzvah could be: a celebration of tradition, individuality, and joy, all wrapped in the sparkling energy of the city. It wasn’t just a party—it was a memory to be talked about and cherished forever.

Client’s Feedback
Guys, look what Kayla’s mom wrote after reading this blog story. She got all the credit from her husband’s speech during the party, so I imagine how meticulous an effort she put into making the celebration a blast. These words mean a lot.
It’s a sweet exaggeration on Pulitzer, of course, but serves as a powerful reward for all the love and labor I put into my blogs. By the way, my next feature will break, then melt your hearts… It’s a breathtaking love story as never told here. Don’t miss it, please.
