After successfully piloting the Fine Art Christmas Portraits project last year, I'm expanding the Christmas mini-sessions in Poconos event to add two new popular styles and a broader price range to fit more budgets! All three types are still based on my digital art, differentiating this magical experience from many local offers. Isn't it neat to have a worthy alternative to cool but cliche sessions with Santa or on a Christmas tree farm, especially if you want to try something new this year?

Types of Sessions

Basic

This will give you a traditional and time-tested feel to your Christmas cards. Get a few quick family poses with a digitally added background from an assortment of Christmas-themed options and your main portrait is ready to sparkle!

Intermediate

These are fun and cute all over! I'll photograph each family member separately, with the target pose in mind. Then, employing my digital art expertise, all the pieces will come together in a design that will make your Christmas card recipients laugh and put it on a fridge instead of a shelf. Their power is not to look realistic but to cause long-lasting giggles.

Advanced

This is the original jewel of my Christmas mini-sessions in Poconos. Despite being digitally created, they are hyper-realistic and magical. Below are samples of what I did last year. The end results are hard to find from most other studios. Coming from the fine art portraiture, I developed a distinct style of Renaissance portraits with their minimalistic but deep and thoughtful character. Where I fall short on the props and elaborate on-location setups, I compensate with the fine art feel. Because of their artistic nature, some portraits are doable for individuals only.

Each image from my Christmas mini-sessions in Poconos is fully retouched and then digitally enhanced to give them a holiday magic feel. Moreover, they will be provided to you digitally in high resolution (not as prints) so you can make your own wall prints or cards at a consumer photo lab of your choice. For the highest possible print quality, I strongly recommend using my professional lab.

The fine art Christmas portraits are designed and envisioned for individuals and groups of up to five.

Props and Clothing

This project is envisioned with a distinct style, so to support it, I will provide props and clothing similar to what you see in the examples: a candle, a Christmas cape, a Christmas floral headpiece, and a scarf. You may bring your own clothing and props, too!

A $40-200 retainer is due to reserve a spot and get me involved in preparing/consulting. It is non-refundable, but in case of cancelation, it turns into a studio credit with no expiration date. The balance will be due upon session completion.

Before and After

Let me give you an idea of what goes into these Christmas mini-sessions in Poconos. I used a moderate amount of digital art—adding the flame to the candle, flare, and a flat background.

I photographed the client with a vision in mind as if she was surprised to see something flying above her. I then strategically added a Christmas fairy in post-production. The original clipart was flat, so I worked on its adjustment layers (levels, photo filter, blur, opacity) to give it volume and realism. An essential part of achieving it is adding shadows by hand-painting them on and around an object. Lastly, I created a glow around the fairy, matching it to the surrounding lights.

Finally, I added a three-layer background for a more dimensional, wraparound feel.
