If you aim for the best Bat Mitzvah photography for your special girl, add a separate photoshoot to the party coverage! Here’s an example of how to knock her socks off.
🎬 Tip: Don’t miss the fun party video at the end! 👇
There are cool event photographers who always nail the vibe of a party, and there are great portrait photographers who create eye-catching, offbeat portraits. When it comes to youth celebrations like Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras, Sweet 16s, and proms, there is a unique opportunity for select photographers who can excel in both areas.
Pre-Event Bat Mitzvah Photography
Pre-event Bat Mitzvah photography isn’t difficult to do for most event photographers, as they mastered doing the portraits throughout the event, anyway.
In fact, parents often combine such a session with the party, bringing a photographer 30-60 minutes earlier. They would have their daughter pose around the event venue for a while, then join her with other family members for group portraits. It’s a fairly convenient and smart approach, provided no one is late, bogged down with the party’s preparations, or stressed with last-minute issues. With ample time and a venue sporting enough photo ops, it works out.
Step Up the Game!
Yet, you can jazz it up by doing a separate photoshoot as part of your Bat Mitzvah photography package, like on a separate day before the Mitzvah party. Granted, it takes more time and costs more, but the effort is fully dedicated, there are no distractions, you’re free to choose a meaningful location, and most importantly, you can have a themed photoshoot, something with a developed concept that perfectly fits your daughter’s lifestyle and character. Neither of these pieces might cook to the fullest at the event venue, with the early guests breathing down your necks.
If you’re game on that standalone Bat Mitzvah photoshoot, the other key element is a skilled and creative photographer. Ahem, I could be one. Such shoots are a true creative vent for my event photography.
Just like with wedding clients, I push their engagement sessions because they could be the ultimate celebration of them as a couple. Right-right, blah-blah, the wedding itself is the celebration, I know. I’m talking about the “ultimate” part, about what makes the couple. Their essence, gist, fantasies, their statement. Check out these couples:

See the difference from wedding day photography? Can those bride-and-groom portraits, even as offbeat as mine, describe the meat of the couple as the images above do?
A Vent for Event
Same with the youth and Bat Mitzvah photography in particular. If your daughter has a statement to make or if she dreams of off-the-wall creative portraits, she needs a photographer who thinks outside the box. My fashion and fine art photography lends plenty of tricks and techniques. Here are a few examples of Bat Mitzvah photography and other youth shoots I did:

Meet the Mititzah!
Ilona, Abby’s mom, found me through my good friends who vacation in my community, Wild Acres. During the interview, I learned about Abby’s bubbly and sporty character and that she wanted an urban feel for her Bat Mitzvah photography. I found a cool spot in NYC, Welling Court Mural Project. It is filled with renewable murals and graffiti and isn’t crowded. We spent two hours walking around, also giving a bit of a spotlight to her brother Josh and mom with grandma. Everyone had a blast despite the shivering temperatures.
These are just the studio’s favorites, not the full gallery. Kindly refrain from re-uploading images to social media during the first week of the feature. “Share” instead and give credit to @ZorzStudios!
By the way, my blog’s made-up title, “Mititzah”, is a nod to Mitzvah (obviously) and a Romanian-sounding word for “little girl”. Her mom lovingly calls her “мелкая”, Russian for “little girl”.
Bat Mitzvah Party
Her Bat Mitzvah party took place two weeks later at The Loft at 350. As expected, it was crazy fun! With some hundred of Abby’s friends from school, gymnastics, and dance studio, the party could not be boring. The stellar entertainment team of Alive Events made sure to keep everyone busy with interactive activities and rock the dance floor.
