For this Crystal Plaza wedding, I finally got a bride into a bathtub.
No, this wasn’t a wedding boudoir mini-session. They are rarely requested on the actual wedding day although one took place last year in Whitby Castle. We kept that shoot off the table. It is more often nowadays that brides request a boudoir session some time before the big day. Images from the shoot make an intimate little gift to present to their grooms. Several of my brides ordered a photo book for his nightstand, for example. Finally, some brides don’t mind introducing a sexy touch to their wedding day. All the components are already in place: a trusted photographer, nice location, and a need to undress and dress again. It is usually time constraints, onlookers, and a bit of stress that get in the way, like in this Crystal Plaza wedding.
Karina and Alex were referred to me by a very energetic and cool couple whose crazy engagement and handcuffed wedding I shot last year. Those friends were also the witnesses during the ketubah signing ceremony.
We had a cozy welcoming dinner to plan out the engagement session first. It took place around Dumbo, here’s one of my favorite shots.
Their entire Crystal Plaza wedding took place in one location in Livingston, NJ where our team arrived to start with getting dressed. The bride ran late from the beauty salon and time was tight. It happened quickly. While I was getting the regular robe shots in the bridal suite, then some putting-the-earing shots, I noticed a decorative bathtub in the cocktail hour area. It was to be filled with ice and seafood but I asked the venue if we can use it while empty. Not only did they agree, they also suggested moving it into a beautifully lit room by the main entrance! They wanted a shot, too! Several staff members helped us and we acted quickly. So quickly that I tripped over a carpet when running out for my voyeuristic shot through the window. No equipment touched the ground.
First look, couple’s portrait session around the venue, the outdoor ceremony going into the dusk, and finally a zippy reception—enjoy the moments from this charming Crystal Plaza wedding.
