This is what happens when two fun-loving and easy-going parents make a like-minded baby and bring him to his first birthday photoshoot.
One’s first birthday is a milestone and the first real celebration in life so no wonder many parents throw a party. Some make a step further and add a first birthday photoshoot into the festive mix, and I love them! Of course, you cannot do a huge lot with a toddler who oftentimes cannot even walk yet and needs constant watching to prevent inedible things eaten and breakable things fallen.
Understandably, a more frequent and convenient environment for a first birthday photoshoot is either clients’ home, like the recent cake-smashing photoshoot I did, or photographer’s studio where some extra creativity may come in handy. The setup, temperature, and environment are more controllable and predictable there. However, an outdoor photo session can offer a rather diverse experience packed with pleasant surprises. This is what we decided on for this first birthday photoshoot and we took advantage of all the good things the popular area offered to us. Brooklyn’s Dumbo with its Jane’s Carousel, ice cream trucks, a lawn, and the views of Manhattan were bound to fit well into a toddler’s photoshoot but we also lucked out with the outdoor Protect Like A Mother sculpture exhibit which ran for just two days there! What a perfect theme to walk into!
You may recognize Vlada and Alex from their cold wedding about three years ago. I got to know them as very warm, outgoing, and caring people, so I was not surprised to see their smiley genome reflected in their one-year-old boy. He rarely stopped smiling and throwing curious and joyful looks at me… except when the carousel’s started moving. He’s surely one dream toddler to work on a first birthday photoshoot!
