Here’s a fine example of an all-day stylish engagement session, covering catacombs, 50 Shades of Grey, designer gowns, Manhattan sunset, and a killer BMW i8.
Izzy and Tommy were referred to me by their friend who has had his own all-day stylish engagement session with me last year so all the benefits and experience were already known and anticipated. We had a full day but with three boroughs to cover, acted time-efficiently.
We started on Staten Island at the Snug Harbor, then sneaked into a secret spot elsewhere on the island where I photographed another beautiful couple a couple of years ago. I even allowed myself to reuse an idea from that session, although I shot from the other side of the door for a more enigmatic feel. Always try to avoid reusing my ideas but I’m a human with a limited potential and occasional slackness, still massively outweighed by the creative shots. 🙂
Once done on Staten Island, we drove away for an in-studio shoot taking full advantage of dramatic lighting, so I welcomed in à la 50 Shades of Grey theme requested by the experimental couple. Showing just a couple of samples from there. There are multiple definitions of a “stylish engagement session”…
Stylish Engagement Session Revv-up
Finally, we moved on to Queens for a view of Manhattan’s skyline. Having BMW i8 with a killer 0 to 60 around and not using it would account for a misdeed so the ubiquitous question was where to find a good spot for it? Short of the race track to sport that acceleration, it should not only offer a good unobtrusive view of the cityscape but also be approachable and, preferably, free to use!
I once did a badass engagement session with a sports bike in a similar strategic spot in Brooklyn but revisiting that place later ran me into a problem when I tried to briefly shoot my own car. I was requested to leave the area but since then, discovered an alternative location for this shoot and isn’t it awesome?! We also timed it around the sunset for an extra woof factor.
And what an all-day stylish engagement session would be without a change of outfit and using a couple of gowns! This red designer dress turned heads and looked stunning both near the BMW beast and on the promenade.
