Sometimes you just want to shoot something absurd and foolish, even if it’s a maternity session.
Don’t ask me “why?” and “what the heck?” when trying to find sense in this series. I’ll hardly have a wise answer. Yet, these images aren’t totally absurd as long as you know some back story, and I will give you the gist. It started with the client’s post in one of FB groups:
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”#8C76AF” class=”” size=”16″]From personal experience, please recommend professional photographer. I’m thinking of doing prego shoot with my family, but I want something very different and unique vs. regular studio or park photos.[/perfectpullquote]It was cool to see how my past maternity (hail Anna, hail Sasha!) and other clients dropped in with recommending me as a fit. The task appeared to me to hit with something out of place. With the dominance of beautiful but expected maternity photos in my own portfolio and others, it was a long-awaited opportunity to go silly and crazy and not worry about having to do “normal” maternity shots. I spent an hour with them Skyping and digging out the truth, what their story is, what excites them, looking for the hooks to create whacky photos that are still relevant to the clients.
Criminal Justice, private investigation, meeting through ice skating and skiing, obsession with TV shows, childhood memories of an old Soviet animated character mailman Pechkin, possession of a 4-year-old son—all led us to several concepts to develop thanks to the extended timeframe of the maternity session. Shooting this was fun already with lots of giggles from the clients and the passerbyers and I hope you will enjoy the images just for the heck of it!
