Family portraits are usually fun and involving, and even more so when you do it for a fellow photographer.
Meet Katrina of Katrina Krimgold Photography, one of whose specialties is children photography. A mother of twins, she was referred to me by another long-time family portraits client, and this is how my family photography business seems to evolve. I do not heavily advertise it, nor do I say that I specialize in it. Yet, some people trust me and either inquire when time comes years after their more bohemian photo adventures with Zorz Studios, or send their friends my way. I do not refuse. Once you ace the more advanced and elaborate techniques of commercial, fashion, fine art, and event photography, family photography becomes a breeze, provided you know how to approach and enjoy working with children. And this, as most of my clients who became close know, is my true vent—or one of them, along with fine arts, rugged traveling, and duathlon—I escape the reality through being and working with children.
Being a very active and involved kid who happened to pick up the status “father”, I kid the kids with no holding back and no shame. They dig that, they reflect, they work with you. And so went this session which we decided to do outdoors on a sunset beach of New York Harbor, still lucking out with October weather.
As you can see, these twins are something… Expressive, active, cute, and trained. Right, it is easier to take photos of a photographer’s children because they are exposed to the process one way or another, and know the drill. I got a similar vibe from another peer of mine whose family portraits I did in Miami, FL earlier this year. So here they are, radiating sweetness and sunshine.
